This is Neeltje (23). At the end of 2023, she swapped her familiar Brabant village for a completely new adventure in Lucerne, Switzerland. After her studies and work experience in Eindhoven, she was ready for a new challenge abroad.

A new challenge at Lake Lucerne

For Neeltje, the adventure started with a spontaneous click. “I was in Lucerne in November looking around for job opportunities. When I sat by the lake, I suddenly knew: this is it!” she says enthusiastically. Back in the Netherlands, it turned out that suitable vacancies were scarce, but in Switzerland, she found exactly what she was looking for: a challenging job as a physiotherapist in a rehabilitation clinic in Zug. “I've been with Adelheid for five weeks now and I'm really enjoying the dynamism and level of care here.”

The difference between the Netherlands and Switzerland

According to Neeltje, what is the biggest difference with the Netherlands? “The people here are incredibly friendly, even in traffic! And although the paperwork took some getting used to, the environment makes up for everything.” The mountains, lakes and peace made a deep impression on her. “Every time I travel to work, it feels like I'm living in a postcard.”

Free time in the Swiss mountains

In her spare time, Neeltje discovers everything nature has to offer. “The walking routes and views here are phenomenal. Even just walking by the lake, it feels like a mini vacation.” In addition to hiking, she also wants to go skiing soon — an activity she had never considered in the Netherlands.

Neeltje's golden tip for your takeoff

For other physiotherapists who are thinking about moving to Switzerland, Neeltje has an important tip: “Arrange your SRK papers already in the Netherlands, because it costs time and money. But trust me, it's worth it!” She also recommends choosing a workplace where you can keep challenging yourself. “The right work environment really makes the difference.”
